Well said! I think the pop song structure is a salient point. The moments of calm make the violence more forceful. I agree about the actors. Love Waltz’s beard. Wanted more of Kerry Washington. Great post.

yeah, it has a really good rhythm, and alternates well between violence and peace, as you say. i also think tarantino, for all his (very evident) personal faults, has a great command of humor in films like this, where he’s able to make you laugh even in the middle of a movie where he’s making you squirm. you’re grateful for the laugh. that’s a feeling i don’t have much. maybe scorcese?
