i think FF7 is almost unilaterally a really beautiful game. i love the blocky-but-expressive sprites, i think the environmental art is really stunning and varied, and even the dated CG tickles me from a nostalgia perspective. 

one thing they didn’t really get right, though, was the combination of sprite art with FMV, like these scenes where you can move around on the tiny bronco while it’s zipping over rocket town. it just looks weird and jerky. that’s one place FF8 jumped forward leaps and bounds.
