notmetaphoric asked: I didn't know you went to grad school. That's pretty cool. Where? And what for? Is it worth getting an advanced degree?

i got my M.A. in english at seton hall. it was worth it for a variety of reasons:

• i was able to make an educated decision about whether or not i wanted to get my Ph.D. (one that i may still recant)
• the teaching experience is great - i honestly think most personality types could benefit from doing some time in the classroom
• i got a fair amount of respect in job interviews when i elected to go back to the workforce from academia; however, the downside of that is that most people didn’t see how my experience in grad school could help me in an office environment, because people are stupid.
